Understanding Your Hearing, One Test at a Time
If you've searched "hearing test near me" because something feels off, you probably already have a suspicion. What you don't know is how much your hearing has changed, or what to do next.
At Always Hearing Clinic, every diagnostic hearing assessment is performed by Dorothy Gesuale, a Hearing Instrument Specialist with more than 20 years of experience in hearing care. You spend an hour with her, not a technician you'll never see again. She runs the full assessment herself, explains what she finds in plain language, and walks you through what it means for your hearing health before you leave.
This assessment costs $75. We don't offer it for free, and that's on purpose. A free hearing test is often a quick screening built to get you in the door. Ours is a comprehensive hearing assessment, and we'd rather you book it because you're ready to understand your hearing than because it costs nothing.

What the Assessment Covers
We start by talking through your medical history and what you've been noticing day to day with your hearing. From there, the assessment includes tympanometry to check how your middle ear is functioning, air conduction and bone conduction testing to measure your hearing thresholds, and speech testing to see how accurately you hear individual words.
Then we test something most clinics skip: speech-in-noise testing. You'll repeat sentences while background noise gradually increases, which shows us how you actually hear in the situations where it matters most, like a restaurant or a crowded family dinner. We run this test with every patient at our clinic, because a quiet sound booth doesn't tell us how you'll do at the dinner table.
If your results point to hearing loss, or anything else that needs medical attention first, we'll share that with your doctor before moving forward with anything else. And if you're already using hearing aids, this same assessment helps us understand how well they're still serving you.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a diagnostic hearing assessment take?
About an hour. That includes discussing your history, completing the full test, and reviewing your results together.
Why do you charge for a hearing test when some places offer it free?
Because this is a comprehensive hearing assessment, not a quick screening. We want you here because you want real answers about your hearing.
What if my results show something a doctor should look at?
We'll share that with your MD before recommending anything else, so any medical concerns get addressed first.
Can I bring a family member?
Yes. Many patients find it helpful to bring someone to their hearing test visit, especially when reviewing treatment options together.
Does OHIP cover this assessment?
OHIP does not cover adult hearing tests performed outside of a physician-led assessment. We'll always be upfront about the cost before you book.
Can I book this assessment for a parent or family member?
Yes. You can call or book online on their behalf, and you're welcome to come with them to the appointment.
